If you do it properly and—most importantly—follow a good Keratin aftercare ritual, you can save up to 70% of what you’d usually spend on professional Keratin treatments in a year.

4. You know your hair better than anyone else

How to prep it, how long to leave the Keratin in… you’ll be able to fine-tune to the slightest detail all the steps of your DIY Keratin treatment.

5. Pregnant, nursing—or planning to?

An efficient Keratin treatment is one thing. What about a healthy & efficient treatment? Choosing a paraben-free, formaldehyde-free, and non-GMO Keratin kit is essential, especially if you have “baby shower” marked on your to-do list.

Step 1: cleanse & prep your hair for the Keratin treatment

Wash your hair 2 to 3 times with a good Deep Cleansing Shampoo. This step will help remove any cosmetic build-up. It will also open up the hair cuticle, which will improve the absorption of the Keratin complex.

Towel-dry your hair to about 80%, so it’s still a bit damp but not wet anymore. Divide your hair into four sections and clip them in place.

Once you’re done, prepare your Keratin complex: Pour 2 ounces of Damila Keratin Complex Formaldehyde Free in a plastic bowl.

Step 2: It’s Kera-time!

Put on your gloves. Then, unclip one section of your hair and start applying the Keratin complex with a coloring brush. Remember, it has to be formaldehyde-free Keratin.

Start at the root, and move towards the tips. Be abundant here: your hair strand should be richly covered with Keratin but not dripping all over the place.

Repeat the same process with the other sections.

Once you’ve applied Keratin to all four sections, use a wide-tooth comb to evenly distribute Keratin by combing from roots to tips.

Step 3: Wait 20–50 minutes (depending on your hair type)

Cover your hair with a shower cap.

    Treatment setting time:

    • Fine hair: 20 minutes
    • Thick or coarse hair: 40–50 minutes

Comb your hair from root to tip every five minutes or so. This will help break the sulfur bonds that make your hair curly.

Step 4: Rinse & Apply A Deep Treatment mask

Rinse your hair with water thoroughly, towel dry, and apply a Deep Treatment Mask. Make sure you’ve covered all your hair.

Cover your mane with a plastic cap. Let the mask do its magic for about 2030 minutes, then rinse again with plenty of water.

    Step 5: Blow dry

Blow-dry your hair 100%. Then flat iron ½ inches strands at 380410° F, depending on the thickness and texture of the hair. Style as desired.

    Pro tip:

    Flat iron settings:

    Fine & Medium hair:
  • Temperature Range: 380°–390°F (193°–199°C)
  • Number of passes: 7–10 times from root to ends

  • Coarse, Virgin & Resistant hair:
  • Temperature Range: 390°–410°F (199°–210°C)
  • Number of passes: 10–12 times from root to ends

    We're Often Asked

    Are home Keratin treatments safe?

Yes! DIY Keratin treatments are formaldehyde-free. It makes them a perfect choice for having your treatment done by yourself or your bestie.

    How long does it last?

Formaldehyde-Free Keratin Complex will last up to 60 days with proper care. To extend the results of your treatment, wash and moisturize hair with a salt & sulfate-free shampoo and nourishing conditioner. Every third wash, replace the conditioner with a deep treatment mask. This will help add silkiness and shine to your hair.

What hair type is an at-home Keratin treatment good for?

All hair types. Especially dry, dull, damaged, or over-treated hair. We recommend it for women who are pregnant or nursing, and it’s safe even for children.

Best results? We see them on fine to medium hair types.

Do I have to remove the Keratin or keep it on?

You will need to rinse the treatment completely with water and follow with a Deep Treatment mask for 20–30 min.

    Is it really formaldehyde-free?

    Yes!

When can I wash my hair?

Wait for 72 hours (3 days) after the treatment to wash your hair. This way, you’ll make sure the Keratin complex has settled in well so you don’t risk rinsing it off.

Can I put a clip/scrunchie after the treatment?

Preferably no. Keep that shiny, glossy, smooth hair loose. Show off!

How many treatments can I get out of the Keratin?

Depends on how long and thick your hair is. We recommend using 2 ounces for each treatment. Our Keratin complex also comes in three different sizes. So you may get anywhere from 4 to 16 treatments from it.
